Overview

Temperature control across the ocean journey

Reefer shipping provides a controlled transport environment for suitable temperature-sensitive cargo, but its effectiveness depends on clear product instructions and correct preparation. FSC coordinates the container movement around the shipper's specified set-point and any applicable ventilation or humidity requirements. These instructions must reflect the commodity and its condition at loading, rather than a generic setting for all chilled or frozen goods. We establish the relevant equipment and handling needs before booking, with attention to the points where the container changes custody or depends on an external power supply.

Loading practice is as important as the selected temperature. Cargo presented outside its required condition, obstructed airflow or unsuitable packaging can undermine the intended transport environment. Our planning discusses pre-cooling responsibilities where applicable, loading arrangements and the information needed by the operating teams. The shipper remains responsible for accurate product requirements and cargo preparation. We coordinate those instructions with equipment availability, terminal receiving windows and the sailing plan so that preparation at the loading location connects with the practical requirements of the ocean leg and destination handover.

Reefer movements involve several power and custody interfaces between collection, terminal handling, vessel transport and onward delivery. FSC identifies the relevant handovers within the agreed scope and establishes how reported operating exceptions should be escalated. Any temperature records or inspection requirements need to be agreed in advance; a reefer booking does not by itself establish product compliance or continuous customer access to readings. At destination, timely release and suitable receiving arrangements help connect the ocean movement to the next controlled environment without relying solely on the published vessel arrival.

Service design

Control at every stage

Cold-chain planning makes product requirements and critical handovers visible from origin preparation to destination release.

01

Set-point alignment

We translate the shipper's written temperature instructions into the booking requirements, including ventilation or humidity settings where applicable. Any ambiguity is referred back for clarification, because different commodities and product conditions may require different operating settings even within the same shipment category.

02

Reefer equipment

Reefer equipment must suit the cargo volume and specified operating requirements. FSC coordinates the equipment request and applicable preparation checks, while confirming loading constraints such as airflow space so the shipper can plan packing and stuffing around the selected container configuration.

03

Power handovers

A reefer depends on suitable power arrangements during the relevant transport and terminal stages. We identify the planned connection interfaces and responsible parties within scope, including inland requirements where arranged, so power needs remain visible when custody of the container changes.

04

Cargo preparation

The product's condition at loading affects the entire voyage. We discuss shipper responsibilities for pre-conditioning where applicable, packaging and unobstructed airflow, ensuring that loading instructions recognise the container's intended function rather than assuming it can correct unsuitable cargo preparation in transit.

05

Exception escalation

Reported temperature or equipment issues require clear escalation rather than assumptions about product condition. FSC establishes contact routes and gathers available operational details, helping the responsible parties assess next steps against the shipper's instructions and the circumstances of the affected movement.

06

Regulated handling

Some temperature-sensitive commodities require certificates, inspections or destination permissions in addition to transport instructions. We flag relevant documentation interfaces for the declared cargo and route, coordinating available information without treating reefer carriage as evidence that regulatory or product quality requirements have been satisfied.

How it works

From planning to delivery

Reefer moves require agreement on product parameters, equipment and power connections ahead of cargo handover.

  1. 01

    Define the movement

Share cargo, origin, destination, ready date and delivery requirements. FSC reviews temperature and equipment constraints, handling needs and trade documentation before recommending a suitable operating plan.

  2. 02

    Confirm the booking

We align capacity, equipment, cut-offs and routing, then confirm booking information and the milestones that matter. Any assumptions or shipper actions are made visible before cargo handover.

  3. 03

    Prepare and hand over

Cargo and documents are prepared to the agreed specification, with collection or terminal delivery coordinated where included. Teams verify critical details and resolve discrepancies before departure.

  4. 04

    Monitor the voyage

FSC follows operational milestones and shares relevant status updates. If port, weather or schedule conditions change, teams assess options and communicate the impact and decisions required.

  5. 05

    Complete delivery

At destination, local coordination supports clearance and release steps within the agreed scope, followed by onward delivery when arranged. Shipment records provide a clear close-out for customer teams.
