Ballast management
Ballast water treatment helps prevent invasive species being carried between ecosystems, in line with international requirements.

Overview
Our vessels cross some of the world's most sensitive marine environments, and we take responsibility for reducing the impact of our operations beyond carbon. Ocean conservation at Fast Safe Cargo focuses on pollution prevention, biodiversity protection and support for ocean science.
Operational measures include ballast water management systems to prevent the spread of invasive species, strict garbage and oily-water handling, hull coatings that limit harmful substances, and speed reductions in designated areas to reduce the risk of whale strikes and underwater noise.
We also work with ports and research partners on initiatives such as data collection during voyages and coastal clean-up programmes, and we review routing in areas where marine life is especially vulnerable.

How we work
Our teams connect operational decisions with measurable priorities and clear communication.
Ballast water treatment helps prevent invasive species being carried between ecosystems, in line with international requirements.
Garbage segregation, oily-water separation and port reception procedures reduce the risk of pollution at sea.
Speed management in designated areas reduces the risk of collisions with whales and other large marine animals.
Propeller maintenance and speed optimisation help limit underwater noise that can affect marine species.
Vessels can support research programmes by collecting environmental data along their routes where partnerships allow.
Employees join clean-up and awareness activities with partners in port communities where we operate.

How it works
A consistent process helps translate priorities into decisions, delivery and review.
Capture origin, destination, transport mode, cargo weight and relevant shipment or service details. Confirm whether the requested estimate covers a single leg or a multi-leg logistics chain.
Identify included activities and lifecycle scope. For comparable logistics-chain reporting, apply consistent boundaries and disclose exclusions, allocation choices and any material data limitations.
Calculate transport activity and apply appropriate mode-specific emissions factors. The GLEC Framework provides logistics emissions accounting guidance and is aligned with ISO 14083 requirements for quantifying and reporting transport-chain emissions.
Check units, assumptions and available data quality, then interpret the result as an estimate. Retain supporting inputs and do not present indicative outputs as independently verified inventory figures.
